Simeón Serrate Mayoral fue homenajeado en la III Trobada de Gaita de Boto Aragonesa. Sin embargo, su avanzada edad (96 años) y su delicada salud, le impidieron estar presente ese día con nosotros. Por eso, el 18 de noviembre, Víctor Longares, presidente de Bente d´Abiento, le entregó en mano la placa que lo homenajea como el decano de todos los gaiteros aragoneses.
La pasión de Simeón fue, durante toda su vida, la gaita de boto, el dance de Castejón de Monegros y esos romances que cantaba, para deleite de grandes y pequeños. Mientras la salud se lo ha permitido, ha continuado asistiendo a las Trobadas de Gaiteros de Robres y se ha ganado la admiración y el respeto de todos, gracias a su maestría y a su generosidad. Simeón ha estado siempre dispuesto a regalar pitas, tallar cucharas de buxo y cualquier otra solicitud que los aficionados a la gaita le demandaban.
Por eso, es un honor para Bente d´Abiento ser la asociación que ha promovido este homenaje. No podemos olvidar sin embargo, la colaboración de Mario Gros, Eugenio Gracia, Pilar Montorio, José Grima, la Banda de Gaitas de Boto de Aragón y de tantos otros que han colaborado con nosotros para darle las gracias a Simeón de parte de todos.
